Training for Families and Caregivers

Project #4:  Provide training for families and caregivers of persons with dementia using the Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers.

Recognized by the Administration on Community Living for Title III-D Highest-Level Criteria for Evidence-based Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Programs, this project is supported by GWEP funding and sponsored in collaboration with the New Jersey Division of Aging Services.  The program is designed to improve quality of life for family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder by helping them better manage and cope with stress.  The program provides training for Master Trainers, who then train other agency or community-based facilitators to deliver a 9 session stress-busting program directly to families and caregivers of persons with dementia.  The program has been expanded to include additional training for Master Trainers on a Stress-Busting Program for Caring Professionals: Combating Compassion Fatigue and Burnout.
